Individual Membership Types
Three types of membership are available at the IoD: full, affiliate, and student. Full membership is open to anyone who meets the following criteria.
- You are a director or equivalent member of senior management in a company
- You have significant experience in a leadership role
- You operate with high levels of personal integrity and value commercial success that is ethically achieved
- You are committed to upholding the values and practices set out in the IoD’s Code of Practice for Directors
If you meet the above criteria, you can apply for full membership by filling out an online application form.
Affiliate membership is available to anyone who wishes to support the work of the IoD but does not meet the criteria for full membership. This includes retired directors, those who work outside executive or board roles, and those who are interested in corporate governance but are currently outside a leadership role. Affiliate members have access to most IoD benefits and services but cannot use the IoD’s designations after their name (e.g., FIoD or MIoD)
Student membership is available to any full-time student aged 18 or over studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at an accredited institution. Student members have access to most IoD benefits and services but cannot use the IoD’s designations after their name (e.g., FIoD or MIoD)
IOD Membership Fees
The cost of IOD membership is high. It can be a bit daunting for some potential members to consider the price tag and all it entails. The cost of IOD membership in the UK is £345 for individuals and £690 for organisations. However, considering the wealth of resources and opportunities available to members, as well as the networking potential, the cost is more than worth it.
